Quick Sketching - Learn to sketch like a designer
Tanguy Prevot, Industrial Designer / Educator
About This Class
You work with designers? You aspire to becoming a designer, or an architect? You're an engineer, an inventor, a maker who wants to be able to express ideas, quicky, visually? Then this class is for you.
This is not a drawing course; we will not learn how to make realistic drawings of nature or people. We will focus on the fundamentals of quick ideation sketching, without going into much theory. You'll even learn how to cheat here and there! The goal is to visualize products, objects, quickly and efficiently.
This is a place where "quick and dirty" is the way forward. No perfectionism here, because you first need to get started. Practice will give you opportunities to be more demanding with yourself later.
We'll start with the basics:
- perspective, visualizing distances
- shading, to reveal shapes and volumes
- reflections, if the object is glossy
- contrast, to give some punch to our sketches
- proportions, to secure the credibility of the visual
- composition of the page, for efficiency
For each topic, I sketch while talking, so you see "live" the principles I describe, and how pretty immediate their effect is.
There is an assignment, of course, where you'll apply all these principles at once. I added a video of my project too, so you see how I proceed - though I had to cut a lot, Skillshare won't let me upload a 30' video ;)
After this class, you will be able to visualize the shapes you have struggled to describe so far.
An image is worth a thousand words, so being able to sketch quickly and efficiently is practically a superpower!
