Fungal Forest

I recently started working on a watercolour project inspired by the anime movie "Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind", in which huge fungal forests cover the earth. As soon as I start painting with an idea in my head I start to control too much and experiment too little. This was the result of my first session:Fungal Forest - image 1 - student project

Then, however, I found this amazing course and immediately went of to find all the equipment to experiment with. After experimenting with these techniques (I was too enthusiastic to practice them first) the forest really turned into a fungal forest :D

I always find adding Indian ink (in a sort of 'reversed-colouring-page-way') really makes the colours stand out much better, so I also started tracing the different areas with Indian ink:

It always takes some time before I can really finish such a work, because I am prone to finishing things too hastily if I just keep working on them in one go.   But in the end it should look a bit like this (but just way more exiting due to the awesome techniques I learned!!!):

Next time I will also try to add in some more contrast, I am always afraid to do so but I should just keep trying.

Thank you so much for this course Jen!!
